  • Off Base Liberty

Spent last Saturday in Cape May, NJ with my nephew Kyle.  He has been in the US Coast Guard bootcamp for the past 7 weeks.  We had a really good visit.  Seaman Recruit Sassin's unit had to march off base before we could see or speak to him.  Was exciting to see and hear them singing their cadence.  Kyle has really grown up.   Spent the day watching movies with some of his shipmates and of course, eating.  First thing Kyle wanted was a Dr. Pepper and  chocolate candy bar. Then, it was popcorn, cheeseburgers and a famous Rita's frozen custard.  We only had 11 hours with him.  Now we are getting ready to head back up for graduation on March 20.  Kyle's first duty station will be aboard the 210' USCG Cutter Dependable stationed in Cape May, NJ.  Seaman Recruit Sassin is real excited about the next chapter in his  life.  His Uncle Buddy and I  Loretta is so very proud of KyleSeaman Recruit Sassin Off Base Liberty 3 Kyle squaring off am soooo very proud of him!

  • Bryan, you will be missed!

Bryan with guitar in his hands making sweet music to lyrics he wrote Hannah and Brian in their Senior year 2001 Hannah and Brian in their Middle School years  I woke this mHannah and Brian Levy in Ftorning to a sad phone call.  A young man that I have known since he wore diapers, passed this morning after a long battle with brain cancer.  Bryan was one of those kids that just touched your heart from the moment you met him.  My daughter Hannah, has been best buddies with Bryan through the years.  When I think of Bryan, I think of the young boy running around in diapers with Hannah on the court in Kodiak, hanging out at the tidal pools in class, having Hannah over to spend the afternoon...just because,  I see him swing dancing with Hannah, singing his music with his guitar at their HS graduation with a sign pinned to his back stating that the school had "censored" him, and a very gifted young man not only in the arts but with the heart. My heart and prayers go out to his family and everyone that has been touched by the gift of just knowing him.  He will be greatly missed.  May you rest in peace now Bryan and may you sing your heart out for the angels.

  • A WONDERFUL Birthday Weekend

Can barely see me over the earthen mounds on the Yorktown Battlefield Roxi enjoys the Williamsburg tour as wellThe whole gang was here wishing me a happy birthday!

I had a WONDERFUL weekend for my birthday thanks to my husband, Gene.  He took me to Old Towne Williamsburg and we walked through the colonial village for about 2 hours.  The weather was BEAUTIFUL...so warm.  Felt like early Summer.  We took our little dog, Roxi and she loved the walk as well.  After a great afternoon there, we had dinner at Outback and then to bed.  On Sunday, we drove part of the Colonial Parkway and ended up in Yorktown.  Again, another beautiful day so we decided to tour the battlefield.  Arrived back home at 3 and our daughter Chirleen and her husband Chris, arranged a surprise birthday party for me.  I was truely surprised!! Had most of my favorite people there and we even enjoyed our dinner outside on the porch. Thank you guys for a wonderful day!

  • Stuck in Raleigh

Kyle ~ Property of the US Coast Guard Snowfall in Raleigh 1 We woke up to approx 3" of snow on the ground and more to come.  Kyle, my nephew was to be sworn in to the US Coast Guard today but everything was put on hold due to the weather.  He is to be sworn in tomorrow and ship to boot camp next Tuesday.  Who would have thought that we would get snowed in on this special day.  Proud of him, he is taking it all in stride.
